Man Runs Across Garden State Parkway To Flee Cranford Police

A perimeter was set up using 2 Union County Sheriff's K-9 units where they later arrested the Georgia man, according to the police blotter.

CRANFORD, NJ — A Georgia man was arrested after he ran away from Cranford police during a traffic stop and crossed the Garden State Parkway, police report.

March 5 at 11:04 a.m., a 1994 Oldsmobile was stopped for an improper turn on North Avenue East at the Garden State Parkway 137 exchange.

Patrolman Ryan Gerrity was speaking with a passenger, Jaquan Johnson, 24, of Conyers, Georgia curbside when he ran away from the police, police report.

After crossing both northbound and southbound lanes on the Garden State Parkway, Johnson got away from police in a neighborhood near the 137 exit ramps.

A perimeter was setup using two Union County Sheriff’s K-9 units to locate Johnson hiding near the area of the Parkway Village Complex.

Johnson was charged with criminal attempt, hindering apprehension, disorderly person, and resisting arrest. He was processed and provided with a Superior Court appearance date, police report.

The driver, Rasheem McQueen, 18, of Plainfield was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. He was arrested, processed and released pending a court appearance. Additionally, the driver was issued motor vehicle summonses for an improper turn, tinted windows, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

On Feb. 27 at 2:37 p.m.: A 2008 Ford was stopped at the intersection of Raritan Road and the Garden State Parkway 136 exchange for a seat belt violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Gregory Federici arrested a passenger in the vehicle, Owen Johnson, 35, of South Amboy for suspected marijuana found inside the vehicle. He was charged with possession of marijuana (under 5ograms) and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a municipal court appearance date. Additionally, he was issued a motor vehicle summons for a seat belt violation.
