Megan Schetelich named girls' Athlete of the Week

Improving track star headed to Nationals this Friday

As she entered her second year of high school, sophomore Megan Schetelich had her sights set on playing lacrosse in the spring.

But all that changed when she tried out for winter track, and found out that she absolutely loved it.

"I started winter track to get ready for lacrosse. Then I found that I like track so much, that I just kept going in the spring."

Her success on the spring track team has earned her the Patch girls' Athlete of the Week honor.

The up-and-coming track star is still fairly new to the scene, but Schetelich has made her presence felt this past spring, enough so, that she will be headed to North Carolina for Friday's Nationals with several of her teammates on the shuttle hurdle relay team.

"Spring track is almost over but now we're getting ready for Nationals," said Schetelich. "We're doing the shuttle hurdle relay race. It's going to be really fun. It's really exciting and we're going to do really well. We're rated seventh, and sixth is All-American, so we're going to try really hard because we really want that."

Her change of mind has led to newfound success and she hopes this will lead to even more accolades in the future.

"This is my first year doing track," said Schetelich. "You just work hard at practice and do really well to PR, and just get better each week. My goal is do try really hard to get better in the 400 and everything I do."

And Friday, she'll take the national stage with her teammates as she hopes to take another big step in her young track career.
