North Bank Foundation Provides Funding for the YWCA's Emergency D.V. Shelter
Northfield Bank Foundation awarded the YWCA Union County a $20,000 grant helping fund the agency's emergency domestic violence shelter.
Union County, NJ- Northfield Bank Foundation presented the YWCA Union County with a check for $20,000 on Friday, May 1st. The funding will support the YWCA’s Emergency Domestic Violence Shelter, which is the only one of its kind in Union County. Northfield Bank has long been a proud corporate partner in the effort to end domestic violence. In 2012, they established a relationship with YWCA Union County to further support the cause.
Northfield Bank Foundation offers support to nonprofits operating in the communities in which Northfield Bank does business-specifically Staten Island, Brooklyn and Central New Jersey. The Foundation focuses its efforts on projects to support education, health and human services, youth programs, and other community organizations that improve the quality of life of local residents. The Foundation has given to date in excess of $4 million to nonprofits within the states of New Jersey and New York.
Since 1978, the YWCA Union County has been providing services to survivors of domestic violence. The YWCA Union County provides a wide range of services to domestic violence survivors, such as emergency shelter, supportive/ transitional housing, counseling, legal advocacy, crisis response teams, a 24-hr domestic violence hotline, and more.

Domestic violence breaks all barriers of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender and socioeconomic status. It is a crime that impacts our entire community. It is estimated that 1 in every 4 women will be effected by domestic violence in her life, which equals more than breast cancer, lung cancer, and ovarian cancer combined. The monetary cost of domestic violence in the United States in dollars has been estimated to exceed 5.8 billion dollars a year in medical and mental health services, loss of productivity, and loss of paid earnings. An average of 3 women per day in the United States are killed as a result of domestic violence.
