Rabid Raccoon Found In Union County: What To Know

LINDEN, NJ — A confirmed case of rabies was found in a raccoon, Linden Police said.
On Tuesday, officials responded to a report of a raccoon acting abnormally in the area of East Linden Avenue between South Park Avenue and Ashton Avenue.
The raccoon was taken by officials to be tested for rabies, and produced a positive result.

No additional cases have been reported, and the case appears to be isolated, authorities said.
Wild or stray animals that display abnormal aggression or tameness, staggering, paralysis, large amounts of drooling, difficulty swallowing, or trouble eating should be avoided and reported.

Nocturnal animals, such as bats or skunks, that are active in the day should also be cause for caution.
Anyone in the area is asked to report any direct human or pet contact with suspected rabid animals to the Linden Board of Health at 908-474-8409.
