Township Committee Tonight: Sewer Fees Ordinance Tops Agenda

What to expect at tonight's Township Committee meeting.

Township officials will introduce an ordinance that aims to change the current sewer billing system to user-based fees at their meeting tonight at 8:00 p.m. Sewer fees, a touchy issue among residents, are currently determined by property value.

Township Attorney Dan McCarthy consulted with several Clark township officials and administrators to discuss their sewer service, and will share his findings tonight. Clark charges for sewer service on a sliding scale based on the water bill of each household and residents pay a minimum sewer fee of $225 for 0 to 100,000 gallons of water used in the prior year. If residents exceed 100,000, it's two cents for each extra gallon. Clark began utilizing the user-based fee in 2006, and have since seen a 10 percent reduction in costs.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to question the Township Committee about the sewer fees, as well as voice their opinions on the system.
