Union County College Students Earn Accolades at Academic Convention
Members of the UCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa were honored at the recent Middle States Convention.

Union County College’s award-winning chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Iota Xi, continued its achievement of excellence at the Middle States Regional Convention held in Baltimore from March 9-11.
Maria Del Cid, the chapter’s president, and Gisella Maldonado, the chapter’s vice president of fellowship, each received the Distinguished Chapter Officer award. Student Emy Quipse won the Distinguished Chapter Member Award and the Hall of Honor Chapter Member Award. In addition the chapter received its Fifth Star Gold Chapter Award and Professor Sherry Heidary received the Paragon Advisor Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, (PTK) the honor society of two-year colleges, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,285 chapters on college campuses throughout the United States.
In order to become a number of PTK, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours of coursework, maintain a grade point average higher than a 3.5 and participate in volunteer activities throughout the
