WESTFIELD AREA Y OFFERS FALL PREVENTION SEMINAR FOR ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS

The Westfield Area Y invites active older adults within our community to a free seminar presented by Kathy Bassiacos, RN, GPS Care Navigator and Stephanie Kresch, Director of Community Relations, both of SAGE Eldercare on fall prevention. The seminar will be offered at the Main Y facility, 220 Clark Street in Westfield on Wednesday, January 21st from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm.

Each year, one in every three adults age 65 and older fall and 2 million are treated in the emergency room for fall-related injuries. The good news is that falls can be prevented!

Ms. Bassiacos and Ms. Kresch will discuss ways to help prevent falls, including ways to keep your home safe, tips on exercise and medication safety, as some medications can make people drowsy or dizzy.

For the past 60 years, SAGE Eldercare has been helping make the communities they serve an amazing place to age. The organization provides a wide array of information, support, and services designed to help people lead the most independent and active lives possible. SAGE’s expertise helps older adults remain in their own homes.

Open to all adults, you do not need to be a Y member to participate in this free seminar. Members can register online at www.westfieldynj.org. Non-members can register in person at the Westfield Area Y Main Facility, 220 Clark Street in Westfield. Participants can bring a bag lunch.
