WESTFIELD AREA Y PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN WERE QUITE THE LITTLE ENGINEERS

The Westfield Area Y Preschool and Kindergarten classes at the Robert and Virginia Bauer Branch were excellent engineers in the new Engineer Enrichment class. The little engineers held the “Strongest Structure Challenge” after reading the book, Twenty-One Elephants, about the building of the Brooklyn Bridge (after its completion, people were skeptical that it would hold up--P.T. Barnum paraded 21 elephants across to allay all fears!).

The children were given simple building materials such as toothpicks, gummy candy, straws and aluminum foil. They rose to the task of building and testing the strength of their structures! The Engineer Enrichment class is looking forward to making more projects soon!
