“He is heavily involved in Youth Council and Boy Scouts as he is currently at Star rank working towards Eagle Scout,” according to Oh’s nomination statement.
Oh not only works with students with disabilities but also helps his mother at the deli. “Each December he goes into New York, to help her prepare breakfast for the East Brunswick High school staff, as his way of giving back to the school that has provided him so much.”
Board President Laurie Lachs thanked the Weiner and Oh families for “raising such incredible kids.”
“These two students have done much for their community and have never expected any recognition for it. So, to see them, and 63 of their peers recognized for being truly selfless kids at this age is incredibly impressive,” Lachs said.
At a dinner celebrating the winners from Middlesex County, Superintendent Victor Valeski said that all the student winners had forged their own path of perseverance.
Valeski is the President of the Middlesex County Association of School Administrators.
"They have blazed trails for themselves that have been bolstered by dignity, determination, maturity and grit. They are truly heroes,” Valeski said.
“You’re examples of fortitude. You are the pride of your families, teachers, principals, schools and communities. You are uniquely special, and we sincerely wish each of you many successes in the future.”
