East Brunswick Man Who Called To Child A Family Friend, Cops Say

The investigation revealed the suspect in question is a family friend and the incident has been deemed a misunderstanding.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Update: 9:40 p.m. Thursday night: The East Brunswick Police Department is confirming that there was no criminal activity in regards to the incident reported on Wednesday, April 24 at a school bus stop on Arthur Street. The investigation revealed the suspect in question is a family friend and the incident has been deemed a misunderstanding. Chief James Conroy and the East Brunswick Police Department would like to thank the public’s assistance in helping to resolve the matter so quickly.

The East Brunswick Police Department is investigating a suspicious incident in which a juvenile reported being approached by a man at a bus stop.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:42 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 on the corner of Arthur and Willow streets. An older white man was driving a black Ford pickup truck with an unknown New Jersey vehicle registration. The driver put his window down and told the child, “Hey kid, come here.”

The child ran down the street while the driver continued to call him to “come here," police said.

The vehicle was last observed traveling east on Arthur Street and making a right turn onto Old Bridge Turnpike southbound. The vehicle was described as a Ford pickup truck with a “horse-like” decal on the back window, a construction light bar on top of the roof and tinted windows.

The incident was reported to police at 4:53 p.m. Wednesday. The child's age was not given by police. The suspect was only described as "an older white male."

Police are conducting increased directed patrols of the area and the East Brunswick Police Department's Investigative Bureau is investigating the incident.
