East Brunswick Education Foundation Gives $52K In Grants

Grants will go towards science and sports school programs that hope to impact students in the "years to come."

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — District curriculum supervisors in East Brunswick were awarded over $52,000 in total by the East Brunswick Education Foundation for programs to kick start the new school year. The projects will “positively impact thousands of students for years to come,” the Foundation said.

Science Supervisor Ryan Higgins and Department Chair, Jessica Dibenedetti received a grant for the project titled “Earth Networks Weather Station.” The project seeks to upgrade 20-year-old weather instruments in the district. The updated weather station with its increased sensors and access to a broad weather network will provide students greater opportunities to investigate weather-based phenomena, the foundation said.

The second science-related grant went to “Super Science Readers,” which allows for the purchase of a subscription to Scholastic’s SuperScience program. This program will provide every 4th and 5th grader with a digital subscription to science-themed articles, giving them exposure to science-based non-fiction sources. It hopes to build on students’ science vocabulary to support subject-specific non-fiction reading in middle school and beyond.
