Infant, Loaded Gun, Crack Found In Rt. 18 Car Stop, Cops Say

A Rt. 18 car stop revealed 14 bags of crack cocaine and a loaded gun; there was also an infant in the car at the time, police say.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick police say they pulled over a car on Rt. 18 Tuesday afternoon and found an illegal loaded handgun wedged in between the back seats, as well as 14 bags of crack cocaine. There was also an infant in the car at the time.

Police pulled the 2016 Chevrolet over on Rt. 18 north just before the Turnpike toll plaza at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, after an officer said he witnessed it making multiple motor vehicle violations. Police said the driver and passenger, both men, originally gave them false names. A subsequent search of the passenger, Shaking Reynolds, 21, of Perth Amboy, revealed he was in possession of drug paraphernalia and one .40 caliber bullet, police allege.

When the loose bullet was discovered, James fled the traffic stop on foot and a foot pursuit ensued, with East Brunswick police chasing him towards the New Jersey Turnpike. James was apprehended and taken into custody.

Police said they then searched the driver of the car, Isaiah James, 26, of Newark, and found him to be in possession of 14 bags of crack cocaine. Additionally, a loaded .40 caliber handgun was
located inside the vehicle, tucked between the rear seats.

The infant was in the backseat. A woman in the backseat as well, Cameisha Graham, 23, of Keansburg, was charged with hindering apprehension and child neglect.

Reynolds was also charged with drug possession, possession with intent to distribute, hindering apprehension and other charges. James was charged with resisting arrest, hindering apprehension and child neglect.

Additionally, all three were charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

All three were remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center. The infant was turned over to a family member.
