Ways to help boost your energy and mood as you age

As you become older, there are different changes that happen to your body such as lower energy levels and a difference in mood. There are ways that you can keep that bounce in your step like focusing on diet, exercise and sleep.
Diet is very important as you age because your body starts to turn food into energy more slowly and as a result, some people may put on weight. Additionally, sugar levels play a big role in energy and mood. Some experts say that “low-glycemic” foods, like beans, non-starchy vegetables, and other whole grain products, help keep your blood sugar balanced. On the other hand, “High-glycemic” foods, like white rice, white bread and sugary drinks can cause fast spikes in your blood sugar. This kind of sugar may make you feel a brief energy jolt, but then will make you feel even more drained than before.

Lastly, sleep is key when it comes to feeling more energized and having a better mood. As you age, sometimes it is harder to sleep because you do not have to get up for work. To get a good night’s rest, you need at least 7 hours of sleep. If you are not getting enough sleep for whatever reason, you should consider different ways to adjust your nighttime routine such as:
