EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Fast Break Basketball, a local program for children and young adults, received the Mayor’s proclamation for their work in the community.

The proclamation was given to members of the program during Monday’s Council meeting.

“Our winters in New Jersey are long, dark and cold. Providing all our children with a healthy, safe indoor space where they can learn and play this incredible sport in an organized, positive, diverse social setting is a big win for families and our kids, and therefore a big win for our town,” said Councilwoman Dana Winston.

At a time when the youth prefers technology and increased screen time over exercise and socializing, programs provided by Fast Break are critical to the community, Winston said.

Winston also went on to praise Fast Break’s Buddy Ball program for disabled children and young adults.

“Your inclusivity and acceptance of all levels of athletes allow all kids to experience the joy of the game,” Winston said.

"As part of a longtime member of a coaching family and recently division director, I’ve witnessed how vital this program has become to players and families over the years.”

Winston noted that participants love the program, especially children who have no chance of playing in an elite team. Fast Break’s programs are run through volunteer help - coaches, site directors, and division directors are people who step up “because it’s the right thing to do.”

“When residents organize together like this, magic happens. And Fast Break embodies this exact energy,” Winston said.
