Local college student wins first place for National Collegiate Rugby
Jared Demarco of Monroe, NJ and his teammate win National Collegiate Rugby Rising Stars Championship

Jared Demarco of Monroe NJ and his team mate Kenneth Sempertugei from Middletown NJ attend Seton Hall University. These young men play for the Seton Hall rugby team. They were nominated by their schools coach, Kristof Vajtay, to try out for the national collegiate rugby tournament this past December. After making the team, both boys flew out to Atlanta Georgia compete. The national collegiate rugby event was held January 18-19, 2025. They played for a team called the tri-state foundry’s rising stars. This was composed of some of the best players from north east college schools. The team made it to the finals and won the entire competition, taking first place. Jared also plays for the PAC club team in his spare time. The Princeton athletic club. Jared’s family owns a local business in East Brunswick, The Bird House, where they are proud to display all Jared’s awards and trophies. This spring the boys will continue to play for seton halls 7’s rugby team and again in the fall with 15’s. These are two unstoppable and dedicated students and athletes! Their dedication and love for the sport of rugby is unmatched! Seton hall had an amazing rugby team and coach and should be proud of their accomplishments!
