Middlesex Co. Man Severs Wife's Hands, Foot Before Taking His Own Life: Report

SOUTH RIVER, NJ — A South River man severed his wife’s hands and feet before killing himself on June 18, according to a media report.

Officers responded to a Kamm Avenue home at 10:01 a.m. on June 18, after a 911 call reporting a disturbance. Authorities found a woman and an unresponsive man with multiple stab wounds, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The woman was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden in critical condition, where she remains. Doctors successfully reattached her hands and foot, and she has regained movement, South River Mayor Pete Guindi told NJ.com, calling her recovery "phenomenal." She gave investigators a full statement Monday.

The couple's two children, ages 12 and 7, were at school during the attack and are now being cared for by priests at St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church in East Brunswick, keeping them out of state custody, Guindi told the news outlet. The family had immigrated from Egypt and has no other relatives in the U.S.
