North Brunswick Bank Robbed, Manhunt Tuesday Night

With a State Police chopper and K-9 units, policed searched the area of Mink Run around 8 p.m. Tuesday for the bank robber.

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Lots of news out of North Brunswick this week: On Tuesday night, the Chase bank on Old Georges Road in North Brunswick Township was robbed, setting off a large police manhunt for the suspect.

The North Brunswick police department searched the area of Mink Run around 8 p.m. Tuesday for the bank robbery suspect; they used a New Jersey State Police helicopter and K-9 patrols to comb the area. Residents were asked to stay in their homes Tuesday night. Attached is a still picture of the suspect.

However, the suspect was not captured and remains on the loose. Just before 6 p.m. Tuesday night, the man walked into the Chase bank and held up a teller. He ran off with the cash.

"The Chase Bank at 1550 Rt. 130 was robbed at 5:48 p.m. by a single suspect," said Capt. Brian Hoiberg of the North Brunswick police. "Unfortunately this suspect eluded capture, but detectives are actively working on the case ... The bank remained closed after the robbery, but has reopened today. There were no injuries other than the obvious emotional toll."

Initial reports said the robber had a gun, but there was no weapon shown in the bank robbery, and the suspect did not use or threaten a firearm, he said.

This comes the same Tuesday a baby was critically injured in a school bus crash at Rt. 130 and Carolier Lane in North Brunswick (the baby was not in a car seat), and the same week more than 70 cars were hit with eggs in North Brunswick condo developments.
