Public Information Center To Outline Rt.18 Project In East Brunswick
Local businesses and residents are encouraged to participate in the virtual meeting hosted by NJDOT from Sept. 26 to Oct. 10.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The New Jersey Department of Transportation will hold a Virtual Public Information Center to provide the public with details of the planned improvements taking place on Route 18.
The meetings will be held virtually from Sept. 26 to Oct. 10.

The construction work, which began over the summer, will provide drainage and pavement rehabilitation along Route 18 (M.P.) 35.4 to 39.5.
The resurfacing and reconstruction of the pavement along Route 18 are intended to provide a service life of 10 to 20 years.

The proposed drainage system will be constructed to mitigate flooding conditions..Additional improvements to the Edgeboro Road / Old Bridge Turnpike and Tices Lane intersections will be incorporated to improve operational performance and enhance pedestrian safety.
The following improvements are also included in this project:
- Addition of ADA-compliant sidewalks and curb ramps throughout project limits.
- Adjustment of roadway cross slope and pavement profile resulting in reconstruction of driveway aprons, curbs, median barriers and guide rail.
- Stormwater management basins to improve environmental water quality.
- Improvements to traffic signals at eight intersections including pushbuttons and adaptive equipment for image detection and mid-block radar detection.
- Updates on existing utilities including reconstruction of water main (Route 18 northbound), ITS conduit (Route 18 southbound) and portions of gas main (Route 18 southbound).
During the project, the following changes will take place:
- Long-term closure of left lane in each direction of traffic to perform median work including reconstruction of barrier, drainage and gas main.
- Long-term closure of right lane in each direction of traffic for work which will include reconstruction of pavement, curb, drainage and utilities.
- Up to 12-weekend closures of two southbound lanes to perform gas main tie-in work, including public notice, messaging on regional Dynamic Message Signs and adjustments to signal timings.
Work is expected to be completed in Fall 2026. Access to local businesses will remain open during working hours. A major portion of the work will be done in the evenings.
