Rt. 18 Repaving, Water Main Work To Begin Soon: East Brunswick Mayor

Work on the project will happen mostly at night. The "massively expensive project" is scheduled to begin after many delays.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The much-awaited repaving of Route 18 is all set to begin soon, Mayor Brad Cohen said during Monday's council meeting.

The state was expected to start road work years ago, but there were many delays in the process. “We did finally get word that they are very close to the process of getting started,” Cohen said.

The work will also include water utility repairs along Route 18. Monday’s council meeting included fund allocation to cover the repair work.

The main water line that comes into the township right by Ryders Lane that borders North Brunswick is almost 70 years old, Cohen said. The township would need a duplicate pipe in what is expected to be a "massively expensive project.”

Meanwhile, the state will be paying half of the costs for replacing water lines that are owned, operated and managed by the township.

Work on the project will happen mostly at night, and as a result, lanes will be closed and traffic detoured, informed Cohen. The project is expected to take around three years, but there’s no exact start date for the project.

As the project begins, the public will be informed through CivicReady.
