South River Man Dies In Crash With Academy Bus: Police
The force of the crash, which happened Tuesday, also caused the bus to drive into a nearby home on Old Bridge Tpk., police say.
SOUTH RIVER, NJ — A South River man, 75, died Wednesday after his SUV crashed into a bus Tuesday afternoon at the corner of Old Bridge Turnpike and Leonardine Avenue, said South River police.
The force of the crash also caused the bus, which is operated by Academy, to strike a nearby home on Old Bridge Turnpike, said police.
The crash happened at 3:18 p.m. Tuesday, but the man died at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick at 3:37 a.m. Wednesday. His identity was not released by South River officials.

South River police say that the bus was traveling north on Old Bridge Turnpike and a gray SUV was traveling south on Old Bridge Turnpike. The driver of the SUV, the 75-year-old South River man, attempted to make a left turn onto Leonardine Avenue in front of the bus, causing a head-on collision.
The force of the impact caused the bus to drive into a home at 58 Old Bridge Turnpike. The extent of damage to the home is unknown.

In total, four people were injured in the crash, with the SUV driver the most critically injured. The other three injuries were deemed not life-threatening.
The man was rushed to Robert Wood, but he died there Wednesday morning.
