South River Police Lead Three-Hour Standoff With Man In Home
A man wanted for burglary and theft at a South River convenience store barricaded himself in his home Wednesday morning.
SOUTH RIVER, NJ — A man wanted for burglary and theft at a South River convenience store barricaded himself in his home Wednesday morning after police questioned him. The barricade occurred in the area of Willett Avenue and Hillside Avenue Wednesday morning.
After a three-hour police standoff, Tyler Underwood, 22, of South River was taken into custody without incident, said the Middlesex County Prosecutor.
At approximately 9:00 a.m. Wednesday South River police attempted to talk to Underwood, who was wanted in regard to a burglary and theft at a local convenience store earlier that day in South River, said the prosecutor's office.

When the police arrived at Underwood’s home, they were denied entry.
Subsequently, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Special Operations Response Team (SORT) was dispatched to the home after he barricaded himself in.

However, the incident ended at approximately 1:00 p.m. when members of SORT made entry and apprehended Underwood without incident.
