Spring Freecycling Day Set for April 18 in East Brunswick

Residents can give unwanted items a second life at this free, community‑wide event

East Brunswick, N.J. – The Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission (EBEC) will host its Spring Freecycling Day on Saturday, April 18 at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, at 721 Cranbury Road.

This community-wide event encourages residents to reuse items and reduce waste sent to landfills. Items may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with browsing open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In the event of rain, the Freecycling Day may be postponed. Updates will be posted on the Friends EBEC website at friendsebec.com and on our Facebook page the morning of the event. Residents are encouraged to check for updates the morning of the event. A rain date will be announced if needed.

Residents are encouraged to participate by bringing usable items they no longer need and are welcome to take items donated by others. There is no charge to participate in this “free trade” event. All items must be offered at no cost and taken for personal use, not for resale.

The items we recommend include gently used clothing, shoes, bicycles, fish tanks, dishes, pots and pans, toys, musical instruments, silverware, small appliances, hand and power tools, kitchen items, garage items, electronics and pet supplies. Boxed toys, games and anything with small parts should be taped shut.

There are some items that we cannot permit, and these include mattresses, televisions, computer monitors, paints, VHS tapes, computer discs, pesticides, tires, toiletries, unframed mirrors, batteries, food and hazardous materials. Large furniture items, heavy appliances or machinery and trash cans will not be accepted. Trash cans must be recycled or disposed of per the township’s guidelines.

The Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission reserves the right to reject any unsuitable items. Additional details about the event can be found on the organizations website

Volunteers are needed for all shifts, including clean up after 2 p.m. Those interested may sign up through the volunteer signup form on the Friends of the (EBEC) website.

Freecycling Day is a project of the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission and is co-sponsored with the East Brunswick Recycling Center, East Brunswick Parks, Recreation and Community Services, Do Not Throw It Away and Green Drop.
