Who's Running For East Brunswick Council In 2022?

Eight candidates are running for four open seats on the East Brunswick Town Council this year.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Four council seats are up for grabs this year in East Brunswick, and eight candidates have filed petitions with the Township clerk.

Council President James Wendell, vice president Kevin McEvoy and Dana Zimbicki are vying to keep their seats for another term. Councilwoman Sharon Sullivan will not seek reelection, instead, Dana Winston has filed a petition to run.

Zimbicki was appointed to the East Brunswick Council in February to fill the seat left vacant by Michael Spadafino. Read More: Dana Zimbicki Appointed To East Brunswick Council

Councilman Dinesh Behal will hold his seat for two more years.

Four Republicans will be challenging the Democrats — David Herrera, Neal Shah, Antoinette Evola and Joseph Kincaid.

Herrera, the owner and operator of El Toro Loco in South Plainfield, challenged Behal last year. The race between them was tight with Behal being declared the winner. Read More: Dinesh Behal Named Official Winner In Town Council Race

None of the Democratic or Republican candidates have primary challengers.

Democratic Party:

  • Kevin McEvoy
  • Dana Winston
  • James Wendell
  • Dana Zimbicki

Republican Party:

  • David Herrera
  • Neal Shah
  • Antoinette Evola
  • Joseph Kincaid

The 2022 primary election takes place on Tuesday, June 7 in New Jersey. The winners will earn their party's nomination for the general election, which takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 8, and will also include independent candidates.
