Woman Breaks Into South River Home, Threatens To Shoot Occupants

A woman armed with a loaded handgun broke into a South River home at 4 a.m. last Thursday, say police, who said it was a targeted incident.

SOUTH RIVER, NJ — A Hawaii woman armed with a loaded handgun broke into a South River home at 4 a.m. last Thursday, April 18 and demanded money from the homeowners, police announced Thursday, April 25.

South River police say the woman targeted the homeowners and stressed that this was not a random act. The woman Kymberly Sparrow, 41, of Waiannae, Hawaii has been apprehended and is currently behind bars.

Police say that at 4:14 a.m. Thursday, April 18, South River police officers Edward Dumas, Patrick Molina and Travis Taylor responded to an address on Hillside Avenue for a report of a suspicious person.

When they got there, the homeowners told police a woman entered their home stating she had a loaded handgun. The woman threatened to use it if they did not give her money. It was unknown if the woman was still on the property and during a search, police said they located the woman outside of the house crouching behind a parked vehicle in the driveway.

After being ordered out from behind the car, police said they saw she was holding a black handgun. After refusing numerous requests to drop the handgun, she finally complied, police said. After a brief struggle with the officers, Sparrow was handcuffed.

Along with being in possession of the loaded handgun, she had hollow-point bullets within her pants pockets, police said.

Police say the victims were specifically targeted and this was not a random act.

Sparrow was charged with burglary, robbery, unlawful possession of weapons, possession of weapons for unlawful purposes, obstructing administration of law, prohibited weapons and devices and burglary tools. She was subsequently transported to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick awaiting her detention hearing.
