Columbia Racquet Club Sends Two Teams to District Championships

Congratulations to the women of
the USTA 4.0 and 3.5 day league teams for capturing top flight honors and advancement to NJ District Championships. Displaying an exceptional desire to
consistently compete at a high level, both teams had truly extraordinary seasons, finishing with 24-2 and 23-2 winning records.   Both Columbia squads that consist of many Florham Park, Madison and surrounding town
players, will move on to compete in the advancing rounds in Bridgewater, NJ, the next step towards the State, Eastern and ultimately the USTA National
Championship held in Arizona.

The USTA day league had its premier season in 2011-2012.   USTA Regional Coordinator, Jen Bona who worked
tirelessly to jump start and then expand the league, stated “I’m  delighted by the incredible growth we’ve realized
over the last 12 months.  We’ve almost doubled our participants and we finished this season with 33 teams and
572 players!”

Martha Tillman, Columbia Racquet Club Manager, partnered with the USTA day league for the first time this year and couldn’t be more pleased with the decision.
Tillman stated “We are extremely excited that we won both divisions right out of the gate.  USTA is a great organization and I am so proud of our teams and wish them continued success…..hopefully to the nationals!!”
What a great achievement to accompany CRC’s 40 year anniversary as a successful Florham Park establishment.

The winning 4.0 team was led by Captain Christine Hegan and Co-captain Carol Mader.  Captain Andrea Levinson headed up the victorious 3.5 women.  Hegan and Levinson have a history of leading their various USTA teams to district championships and beyond.  Both women
built strong and committed teams by promoting USTA challenging match play, recruiting a great range of skilled players and offering the only day time forum encouraging singles play.   Levinson said "USTA has done an amazing job of putting the focus on the team win which has created the friendliest, most enthusiastic team I have ever seen.  Every player brought something very special to the  group."  Hegan concludes “I’m very proud of the competitive spirit of our women and the wonderful team camaraderie that’s developed over the course of the season.  These two qualities contributed greatly to our
remarkable results.  We look forward to our next round of competition!”
