WPHS Holds Annual Blood Drive
Whippany Park High School's annual blood drive will help over 150 local people.

On Friday, March 22, Whippany Park High School nurse Jan Goodman held her 20th annual blood drive at WPHS. Each year, the event draws numerous volunteers and donors from the WPHS community. “It amazes me how many kids want to donate!” says Goodman, explaining that even students who shy away from giving blood want to be of assistance in any way they can.
This year, Goodman says, they collected a total of 54 pints of blood, a donation that will stay within Morris County, thanks to Atlantic Health System’s Blood Donor Services, the department of Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center Goodman works with to hold the event. Over 150 people will be helped as a result of WPHS’s contributions.
Junior Jen Hare, one of the student volunteers who helped run the blood drive, reports she was “a little nervous” about witnessing the donating, but admits, “It wasn’t bad at all. I really liked being there to talk to and comfort my friends.”

Volunteers like Hare prepared baked goods for the donors, organized the sign-in and paperwork process, and provided companionship for the donors during the donation process.
Overall, the blood drive went smoothly and was a success. “Everyone was there for a great reason,” says Hare.
