Man Caught With Dagger, Machete After 'Suspicious Incidents,' Cops Say
East Hanover resident faces weapons charges after motor vehicle stop in New Providence.

An East Hanover man had a 3-inch dagger and a 10-inch machete-style knife in his car after being pulled over for "suspicious incidents" early Tuesday morning, New Providence police said.
Nicholas Neilan, 23, was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unlawful possession of weapons. The man also was issued a summons for violating a provisional license and using a handheld device while driving, police said.
According to the police report, Cpl. Chad Wilson and Patrolman Joseph DiParisi pulled the man over on Gales Drive after unspecified "suspicious incidents" allegedly took place at 3:25 a.m. and 3:51 a.m. while Neilan was driving a 1997 Ford Taurus. No further information was immediately available Wednesday regarding what the suspicious incidents were.

During the officers' investigation, they found a 3-inch dagger in Neilan's pocket and a 10-inch machete-style knife on his car's floorboard, the report said.
The man was processed and released pending an appearance at Union County Superior Court, police said.
