Blizzard Closes East Windsor Schools For 2nd Consecutive Day

Citing ongoing snow accumulation, the school district canceled classes and the Kidcare Program.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — For the second consecutive day, the East Windsor Regional School District will close all of its schools Tuesday, citing snow accumulation from the week's historic winter storm. The district's Kidcare Program is also included in the closure.

The announcement comes on the heels of a Monday shutdown that the district called in advance as a blizzard barreled NJ.

Parts of New Jersey received more than 20 inches of snow, with Monmouth County reporting as much as 24.2 inches, according to National Weather Service spotters. Local reports placed East Windsor's totals at roughly 15 inches as of Monday morning, with snow still falling.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill declared a State of Emergency beginning Sunday at noon and extended a mandatory travel restriction through Monday morning, calling the storm one of the most serious in years.

The district has not yet announced whether makeup days will be added to the academic calendar to compensate for the storm-related closures. Under New Jersey state law, school districts must meet a minimum number of instructional hours per year and are required to make up any days that push them below that threshold.
