DUI Charge For Driver In East Windsor Crash That Injured 4 Teens

The teens were traveling in a sedan when it collided with a pickup truck last month. Police have charged the pickup truck driver with DUI.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — A Trenton man was charged with DUI in connection with a crash that seriously injured four teens in East Windsor last month, police said Thursday.

Hector Esteban-Palomo, 41, was charged with four counts of DUI including reckless driving, and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.

On Sept. 20, a pickup truck collided with a sedan on Windsor-Perineville Road. All four teens in the sedan, aged 14 to 17, suffered serious injuries, police said.

Helicopters from the New Jersey State Police and Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center landed at the Ethel McKnight Elementary School soccer field to transport two seriously injured victims to the hospital. On arrival, police and EMS began administering first aid to the injured, police said. One passenger had to be extricated from the sedan and another unconscious passenger had to be removed by police and firefighters, police said.

The driver of the sedan was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by Robert Wood Johnson EMS. A front-seat passenger and a rear-seat passenger were taken to RWJ New Brunswick by the Northstar Medical Helicopter.

During the course of the investigation, a toxicology report revealed that Palomo’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit, police said.

"The investigation also revealed that the driver of the truck was at fault as his vehicle crossed the double yellow lines and entered the westbound lanes of travel,” police said.

Palomo was arrested, charged, and released pending court action.
