Hindering Apprehension, Theft by Deception: East Windsor PD Blotter

Police have charged a PA man who defrauded a resident of $14,500 following a Facebook Marketplace scam.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — The East Windsor police blotter released on Feb. 9 contains the following reports:

On Feb. 4 at 3:34 a.m., an officer responded to the area of Old York Road for a motor vehicle accident. The driver struck a utility pole, but was uninjured, police said. The 23-year-old Staten Island resident exhibited signs of impairment and was placed under arrest after failing field sobriety tests, police said. He was charged with DUI, reckless driving, and careless driving, and released pending court action. The damage to the utility pole resulted in the road being closed for several hours and repairs were completed.

On Feb. 4 at 4:43 p.m., an officer responded to the ShopRite on 319 Route 130 for a reported shoplifting. According to investigation, a 30-year-old East Windsor resident left the store without paying for $413.33 worth of merchandise. While leaving the parking lot, the man struck a parked vehicle and left the scene of the accident. He was located at his residence and attempted to evade officers by fleeing on foot. The man was placed under arrest and taken to the Mercer County Correctional Center.

In August of 2022, a resident was defrauded of $14,500 following a Facebook Marketplace scam where the resident purchased a vehicle that had been stolen and assigned a fraudulent title. The detective identified the suspect as a 25-year-old Philadelphia resident. On Feb. 8 the man was charged on a complaint summons pending court action.
