Metuchen Mayor Jonathan M Busch posted a link to the fundraiser on Facebook, requesting the community to help the couple.

METUCHEN, NJ — A fundraiser has been launched for a Metuchen couple who lost their home in a house fire recently.

The Sciachitano family had been living in their West Walnut Street home for more than 40 years before the fire.

Mayor Jonathan M. Busch shared the GoFundMe page on Facebook saying the stress the family faced was “immeasurable.”

“Metuchen always rallies around its own and their daughter, who grew up in the home, has organized a GoFundMe page for anyone that may be able to assist her family in need,” Busch said.

“Please consider joining me in supporting the Sciachitano family. I am sure that any amount will go a long way in helping them to get back on their feet.”

On August 6., around 3 p.m., a fire broke out at the West Walnut Street home, according to the couple’s daughter Lori-Ann De Chavitano.

The fire began on the second floor and spread to the attic. All residents were able to get out, including their new dog, Mattie.

“We are anticipating the house being at a total loss,” De Chavitano said on GoFundMe. “My parents have lived in this house for over 40 years, so there is a lot to replace. They have some clothes, but we don’t know how long they will have to stay in hotel. Any amount you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.”

As of Wednesday, the family has raised $17,426 of $20,000 goal. To donate, click here.
