
The Englewood Cliffs Board of Education has hired two unarmed security guards after parents asked for more security following the Newtown, Conn. school shooting massacre.
According to the Northern Valley Suburbanite, the retired police officers will patrol Upper and North Cliff schools starting Monday.
Schools officials said the security guards will serve in a trial period from April 8 to June 27.

The district had considered using armed security guards, and board Vice President Joseph Luppino said the debate was ongoing.
"First my feeling was to have an armed guard but I want to see how this works out and keep an open mind," Luppino told the weekly newspaper. "I'm really happy we are going in this direction and we will assess it for the new school year."
