Englewood Police Seek Knife-Wielding 7-Eleven Customer

Dispute over cigarettes led to confrontation, police say

Englewood police are searching for the man they say pulled a knife on a 7-Eleven store clerk in a dispute over the price of cigarettes early Sunday.

The incident began when a customer started arguing with the 23-year-old employee over the smokes at 4:30 a.m. at the Tenafly Road store, according to police. The irate patron then pulled a knife and lunged at the worker before fleeing.

“The clerk believed the man was of West-Indian descent by his accent. He said he had problems with him in the past, but not to this extent and was pretty shook up by the incident," said Englewood Detective Capt. Timothy Torell, adding the attack was captured by security cameras.

Police were  able to learn from the clerk that the assailant fled in a red vehicle, possible a Toyota, Torell said.

“Between a partial plate number we have and the video, we are certain the man will be identified," the captain said. "He’s facing several serious charges.”
