Bergen Youth Orchestra Symphony Concert

BERGEN YOUTH ORCHESTRA OPENS 2012-13 SEASON WITH DEC. 9 CONCERT FEATURING TCHAIKOVSKY’S SIXTH SYMPHONY


Works by Rimsky-Korsakov and Nikolai also on the Program


ENGLEWOOD, N.J., Nov. 19, 2012 – The Bergen Youth Orchestra (BYO) Symphony will open its 44th season with a Dec. 9 concert that features Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B Minor as well as works from Rimsky-Korsakov and Nikolai.

The BYO Symphony performs under the direction of conductor Eugene Minor, who has also served as music director since the BYO was founded in 1968. 


The concert will be held at the Bergenfield High School auditorium, at 4 p.m.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.  They can be purchased in advance by calling 201-569-1625 or at the door.

The BYO Symphony, comprised of 70 youth musicians ages 8 through 18 from throughout northern New Jersey, will also be holding two other concerts during the first half of 2013.


The December 9 performance features Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B Minor (Op. 74), classic Romantic work. The BYO Symphony will also perform the Merry Wives of Windsor Overture, composed by Otto Nikolai, and Capriccio Espagnol, composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.

The Bergen Youth Orchestras, based in Englewood, N.J., was founded in 1968 and prides itself on allowing capable students the ability to work in a professional environment. The non-profit orchestras are dedicated to providing young musicians with exceptional training and the opportunity to perform diverse orchestral literature. Students are exposed to music that is both energetic and artistically distinguished. The BYO has performed under music director Eugene Minor in many distinguished venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic.
