Spring Concert at St Paul's on June 8

St Paul's Episcopal Church in Englewood is presenting its Fourth Annual Spring  Concert on Sunday, June 8 at 4 pm, featuring a variety of music, from the renaissance to gospel, jazz and spirituals.

Soloists, St Paul's Choir, and the St Paul's Choir School will invoke springtime throughout the world with songs in German, Hebrew, Latin, as well as English. Conducted by Mark Trautman, St Paul's music director, they will be accompanied by percussion, bass, and piano.

As spring brings thoughts of love, the texts from the Old Testament's Songs of Solomon are appropriated for wedding and anniversaries: Daniel Pinkham's "Wedding Cantata" and William Walton's "Set Me As A Seal" are two compositions that deal with the idea of love. "Ubi Caritas" (Where charity and love are) written in 2007 by the young Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo continues this subject to the present day. The program also includes motets on Marian themes, "Ave Maria" by Josquin des Pres and Healey Willan's "I beheld her, beautiful as a dove."

Girls and boys receive free music education and performance opportunities." They recently sang for the first annual Royal School of Church Music New Jersey Choral Festival. The St Paul's Adult Choir is a semi-professional group of singers that sings for services and concerts at the church.
