Betsy Ross in Independence Day Show at Maple Glen

Agape Road Show will bring music, comedy and chocolates

Volunteers are welcome to sing with Agape Road Show at on Saturday, July 2 2-3:30 p.m. Volunteers will entertain the nursing home residents  with an Independence Day program that includes sing-along group songs, jokes, skits and magic.

The show will include an original Independence Day comedy skit with Betsy Ross played by Chris Andrews, Thomas Jefferson played by Ace Andrews and several children performing as Indian Warriors who helped the Revolutionary Army.

"We’ll be honoring America’s birthday by singing songs Senior citizens love like “America the Beautiful,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” said Agape Director Cornell Christianson. Soloists Stephanie Zaentz, Irene Slawenski and Louis Milgrom will sing a tribute to America with songs like “Stars and Stripes Forever,” “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” and “The Ballad of the Green Beret”.

The nursing home residents will receive sugar-free chocolates and colorful Independence Day stickers. 7-year-old Shayna Gordon will perform magic tricks.

"Our residents look forward to this show every year," said Maple Glen Center Recreation Director Anna Zakaryan. “With all the patriotic songs, it’s one of Agape’s best shows."

The Agape group began singing at Maple Glen Center four years ago and has done over 40 volunteer shows there.
