Firecrackers, roman candles, rockets, cherry bombs, sky lanterns, etc. etc....... they're all not legal to be used, bought, sold, or possessed in the State of New Jersey - at least not without the necessary Permits which are available only to properly trained and licensed individuals.
Governmental and independent agencies report that fireworks in 2011 caused 17,000 fires, 30 million dollars damage, and 9,600 emergency room injuries - several of which were fatal. Nearly half those injuries occured to persons under age 20.
Because of fireworks' unpredictability, innocent bystanders are often victimized. And flying rockets are very capable of igniting a nearby house or flammable liquid. Even seemingly safe sparklers pose a hazard as they heat up to 1200*F and send hot cinders flying our of control; yep, that's the same sparklers given to the kiddies to keep them occupied while the grown-ups play with the heavy duty stuff.
