Why Become a Rotarian as a way to fulfill Your Desire to Volunteer in Your Community?

With the begining of the New Year, The Rotary Club of Fair Lawn would like you to consider Rotary as way to give back to the local and global communities.

Becoming a member of Rotary International is becoming a part of something
larger than an individual. When you become a Rotarian, you join with over 1.2
million like-minded individuals across the globe seeking to improve the lives
of their neighbors around the corner and strangers around the world. Rotary
allows you to do more locally and globally to benefit the greater good; Rotarians are ambassadors of world understanding, goodwill and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.

Rotarians can be found on every continent providing medical assistance, disaster relief, clean water and proper sanitation, educational opportunities and the eradication of polio. There are many Rotary International sponsored programs that you can be a part of; one person can make a difference, but over 1 million like-minded people united in an idea can make that difference happen sooner than later on a much larger scale.

Locally,Fair Lawn Rotarians, are providing assistance to our neighbors through Project REAL (Rotary Encourages Academic Learning) which provides school supplies to children in the Fair Lawn District that are not able to afford supplies on their own, scholarships to Fair Lawn High School students seeking to continue their educational pursuits once they leave FLHS, donations of funds for vaccines to the Fair Lawn Health Department, sponsorship of the Maurice Pine Library’s Children’s Summer Reading Program, distribution of dictionaries to third graders in Fair Lawn Elementary Schools, which has led to the 4th Grade Spelling Bee program.  Rotarians have made donations to the Fair Lawn Health Department’s Food Pantry, to Fair Lawn’s Emergency First Responders (Rescue, Fire and Auxiliary Police departments), and Fair Lawn Rotary sponsors FLHS juniors to attend the annual RYLA experience, and the FLHS Interact Club.  There are several Fair Lawn programs and groups that Rotary supports.

Rotarians have also been able to donate several items to the residents of our community for their enjoyment. Rotary Grove was established at Memorial Park and Pool; this area includes a flag pole, benches and chess tables. The Rotary Club of Fair Lawn has also donated the clock in front of the library as well as benches and the rotating globe found in the lobby. Local Rotarians were instrumental in the construction of the pergola at the high school which is used as an outdoor learning area as well as a place for students to relax. Throughout the years The Rotary Club of Fair Lawn has supported the high school as it donated the (previous non-digital) community bulletin board at the school's entrance on Berdan Avenue as well as the scoreboard and original Fair Lawn School Bell which has been mounted on a trailer for use at football games. Our fundraising efforts have also been influential in allowing Rotary to provide for the health and safety of our youth through partnerships with local businesses in the “Hooray for Helmets” safety campaign and the distribution of "Kid Care DNA Identification
kits".

To find out how you can be part of the world’s oldest service organization and
join with 1.2 million other like-minded individuals that believe in the
commitment of “Service Above Self” speak with a Fair Lawn Rotarian or
