Over 100 people attended the campaign kickoff for Fair Lawn Democratic candidates Joan Heffler Goldstein and Cristina Cutrone Sunday afternoon at the American Legion Hall in Fair Lawn. Speaking to the enthusiastic crowd of supporters, Goldstein and Cutrone each addressed their campaign theme of “Moving Fair Lawn Forward”.
Goldstein called for a return to fiscal responsibility on the Borough Council, saying “the current majority raised the water fee which is a tax, it’s not a fee, it’s a tax.” Earlier Councilperson Kurt Peluso echoed the same sentiment, saying “we’ve seen an increase in taxes that has to be reversed.”
Goldstein also said “In my professional life, I am a Project Manager and Business Analyst. I spend my days delving into what a business needs and why, determining how people accomplish those things now, and helping them to figure out ways to do things more efficiently. Isn’t that what a Councilperson is supposed to do?” She went on to speak about how her parents instilled in her their deep commitment to volunteering and contributing to the many parts of the community that they live in, and leaving the world a better place than how they found it.

“We need leaders who will stand up and fight for the average family, leaders who will keep lines of communication open and use their creativity and innovation not only to put out fires, but to prevent them from happening”, said Cristina Cutrone. “I am committed to working tirelessly on behalf of every single Fair Lawn resident.” A public school teacher, Cutrone cited the library, the pool, the senior center, the community center and the All-Sports program as things that drew her to Fair Lawn, and she went on to say that the warm community feeling in Fair Lawn is the prime factor when she and her husband chose to buy their home and raise their family here.
