Rosenberg has served on the Fair Lawn Board of Education since 2007. He was president from 2011 to 2013. He also serves on the executive board of the Bergen County School Boards Association.

Rosenberg is a life member of the Fair Lawn Rescue Squad. He served on the squad from 1982 to 2011. He currently serves on the Fair Lawn Community Emergency Response Team. He is a Fair Lawn High School and Ramapo College alumnus. He is a middle school history teacher and was named the New Jersey Outstanding Teacher of American History in 2016 by the Daughters of the American Revolution.

“I am proud of my record of service to Fair Lawn. I grew up in Fair Lawn, raised my family in Fair Lawn, and I am very proud that my grandchildren are being raised in Fair Lawn. This is our home and our community’s future is important to me," Rosenberg said in a statement. “Because of that I want to take my experience and join [Deputy Mayor] John Cosgrove to ensure that our council’s only interest is in the people of Fair Lawn, not special interests and political parties. It’s about putting Fair Lawn first.”

Cosgrove said that Rosenberg's "experience, service, and leadership will be a great addition to our council.”

The special election is necessary because former Mayor Lisa Swaim stepped down to fill a state Assembly seat in the 38th Legislative District vacated by Joseph Lagana. Lagana resigned from the Assembly to replace state Sen. Bob Gordon, who became a member of the state Board of Public Utilities.
