How to Spend Super Bowl Sunday in Fair Lawn

Bars, caterers and restaurants are set for the big game

Whether you want enjoy the big game at home, or elect instead to watch the Packers and Steelers at a bar or pub, there are plenty of Fair Lawn establishments that have your needs covered for Super Bowl Sunday.

Here's what you need to know:

The 60-year-old (24-10 Fair Lawn Avenue, 201-797-9779) is offering the basics to the unique in party platters. For just $5.95 per person, a tray of assorted cold cuts and cheese with potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, pickles and bread are yours. For $6.95 per person, a hot buffet of bratwurst, knockwurst and weisswurst with sauerkraut and potato pancakes is available.

If you're looking to go a little pricier, the Swiss Pork Store can prepare half trays of sausage and peppers or kielbasa and sauerkraut for $27.95 per person. Giant subs can be ordered as well.

“Don’t do it (order) the last minute,” recommends owner Steve Struble. “Call early.”

“We’ll have the usual,” says David Drahouzal, who owns the historic with his sister, Marlies, and mom, Penny. “There’ll be a free buffet at game time with wings and more.”

The 201 Magazine-voted “Best Neighborhood Bar” a few years back also offers offsite catering, so order early. However, if it’s the ambiance of watching the best in gridiron amid history, the now 51-year-old Dutch House Tavern is the place to be.

Eddie Guy and (25-01 Broadway, 201-796-4082) always has a feast on Super Bowl Sunday.

“We do it every year," Guy says. "It’s a yearly thing, and we look forward to it. People come from all over town to watch the game.”

“We’ll have food at half time,” he continues, “hot and cold.” The free buffet includes baked ziti, sausage and peppers, and chili.

Encouraged arrival time, per Eddie Guy? 6:30 p.m.—right around kickoff. JJ’s fills up fast.

Twin brothers Frank and Victor Rivara, owners of (6-18 Maple Avenue, 201-797-4878, www.rivaras.com), and Executive Chef Dave Smith are holding a “super” Super Bowl Sunday free hot and cold buffet prior to kickoff.

There’s no skimping here.

Available are assorted heroes, tossed salads, crudite hot dishes, sausage and peppers and egg noodles, as well as penne with vodka sauce, Italian meatballs, eggplant parmigiana, southern friend chicken, and Cajun rice.

Ordering out? You can’t go wrong with the Rivara’s specialty, rack of ribs. They're $12 per rack.

Okay, don those Packers, Steelers, or whatever jersey you own, and head on over to (14-26 Plaza Road, 201-796-3113).

“It should be a fun night,” says Joanne, the manager. “The whole place is totally decorated, and it should be a real festive night.”

The Track Side Grille Super Bowl Extravaganza starts at 5 p.m. and wraps up “whenever.” A hot and cold buffet is being offered at $10 for children and $19.99 for adults. During the evening, a flat screen will be raffled off, and there will be various surprise giveaways. To be enjoyed with your buffet fare are $2 house brand shot and draft beer specials.
