NJ Spotlight used the Mortality Inpatient Quality Indicator to create a mortality map. More information is available at the Hospital Performance Report.
The dataset used by NJ Spotlight was adjusted to account for differences in patient characteristics so that hospitals that treat sicker or older patients can be fairly compared to other hospitals that do not treat so many sick or elderly patients.
