Man Struck By Train Thrown Onto Steel Beam In Bergen County: Police
The man, who authorities are trying to identify, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said.

ELMWOOD PARK, NJ — A man remains in critical condition after police said he was struck by a train and was thrown onto a steel beam 25 feet above River Road.
Elmwood park Police are still trying to identify the man, said Chief Michael Foligno.
Police responded to the railroad tracks on the New York Susquehanna Western bridge above River Road at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, Foligno said. They found a man lying perpendicular on a steel beam 25 feet above River Road, police said.

Police said the man was struck by a cargo train and thrown onto the beam.
Police, fire and an EMS crew reached the man, who was still breathing, but unconscious, and rendered medical aid, Foligno said.

The man sustained severe injuries to his head and face and a possible compound fracture to his lower right leg, the chief said. He was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson.
According to the train conductor, the man was walking west, away from the train, when he sounded the train's horn several times, but the man did not react, Foligno said.
Police are still trying to identify the man, who remains at St. Joseph's in critical condition.
