Saddle Brook Student Receives $16K Ronald McDonald Scholarship
Gladis Philip, 18, has completed nearly 800 hours of community service.

SADDLE BROOK, NJ — A borough high school student has received a $16,000 college scholarship from the Ronald Mcdonald House for her nearly 800 hours of volunteer service to the community.
Gladis Philip, 18, has volunteered for five different organizations and will attend State University of New York at New Paltz. She will major in Biology on a seven-year medical track.
Philip is one of seven students to receive a scholarship from the 2017 Ronald McDonald House Charities Asian Students Increasing Achievement Scholarship Program.

Another Bergen County student, Mikako Inaba, 18, also received a scholarship. Inaba is president of Foster The Children, a student-led club at Bergen County Academies that helps abused and neglected foster children. She will be attending Princeton University in the fall.
The program has awarded more than $1.6 million in scholarships since it was created in 2001. Scholarships are awarded to students in financial need who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community involvement.

“With the increasing cost of college, not every family can afford their children’s tuition fees,” said McDonald’s franchisee Michael Anderer, president of the RMHC-NYTSA Board of Trustees and a member of this year’s scholarship selection committee. “We are committed to and are always happy to lend a helping hand to outstanding students in the community.”
