Police Investigating Fatality On NJ Transit Bergen County Rail Line

Service was stopped between Fair Lawn and Secaucus in both directions, NJ Transit said.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — Service was stopped on NJ Transit's Bergen County Rail Line for about two hours Tuesday after a man died when was struck by a train in Carlstadt, NJ Transit officials said.

The man was struck at about 11:05 a.m. by the No. 1151 train on the Bergen County Line, said Lisa Torbic, a NJ Transit spokesperson. The adult was hit just west of Paterson Avenue.

The train departed Hoboken at 10:39 a.m. and was traveling to Suffern, New York when the man was hit, Torbic said.

Thirty-six customers and crew members were on the train when the man was struck, Torbic said. No injuries were reported.

NJ Transit Police are on the scene investigating. Torbic did not have details on why the man was struck.

Service was suspended in both directions shortly after the incident until shortly after 1 p.m. between Broadway in Fair Lawn and Secaucus, NJ Transit said.
