Hunterdon County Boy Scouts Spend Adventurous Week In Virginia

Scouts spend an adventurous week in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Annandale’s Boy Scout Troop 200 crammed as much as they could into a week-long visit
to Camp Powhatan, part of the 17,500-acre Blue Ridge Scout Reservation in southwestern Virginia.

“This year we traveled farther than we have in the past few years,” explains Ethan Lutz, the troop’s Senior Patrol Leader. “We’re always looking for a new adventure and since Camp Powhatan is one of the largest Scout camps in the country, we had a lot of program options to choose from.”

Over the course of a week, a dozen scouts from Troop 200 earned up to 5 merit badges each. The most popular merit badges earned during the week included: Leatherwork, Emergency Preparedness, Search & Rescue and Space Exploration. First-year Scouts took part in the Brownsea program, modeled after the original program that scouting’s founder, Lord Baden Powell created over 100 years ago.
