Reports No Issues For Fourth Consecutive Year
Hunterdon County’s financial records for 2018 were cleared with no issues or recommendations for corrective action by the County’s independent auditor for the fourth year a row, the County’s Chief Financial Officer reported to the Freeholder Board at the October 15th meeting.

Freeholder Board Director Suzanne Lagay called the report, “an exceptional performance by CFO Janet Previte and the Finance Department team.” Lagay noted that the Freeholder Board’s record of controlling the budget and taxes is dependent on accurate and credible financial records.
Freeholder Matt Holt commented that County financial controls have come a very long way from where they were a few years ago. Holt noted it is a key reason the Freeholders were able to bring in a 2019 budget that is lower than the budget from six years ago and hold the tax rate steady.

“The CFO, her staff, and all our Departments are to be congratulated for the fourth consecutive audit clean bill of health, Holt said.”
The financial audit for 2018 reviewed current accounts, the open space trust fund, grants administration, purchasing practices and other trust funds and financial accounts for which the County Finance Office is responsible.
Three different auditing entities participate in the audit of various component accounts; Wiss & Company, Suplee Clooney, and the Department of Human Services Office of Auditing. All audits found the County in compliance.
Scott A. Clelland, a Registered Municipal Accountant with the accounting firm Wiss & Company, states in the audit report ‘The results of our tests disclosed no instances of noncompliance or other matters that are required to be reported under Government Auditing Standards.’
