NJ Town's CFO Charged In Alleged Payroll Fee Billing Scheme In Hunterdon County

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Chief Financial Officer for Franklin Township(Hunterdon County) was charged in connection with an alleged payroll billing scheme, said Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson on Friday.

Cameron T. Keng, 39, of Fort Lee, was charged on Tuesday with third-degree theft by deception.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Unity Bank began an internal investigation in June into payroll fee transactions involving Franklin Township.

During that investigation, the bank identified what the prosecutor’s office described as an alleged double-billing scheme and reported its findings to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.

The matter remains under investigation.

A pre-indictment conference is scheduled for Sept. 14.

Keng faces a prison term between three and five years and a fine not to exceed $15,000.
