5-Month-Old Fort Lee Baby Allegedly Punched By Father Has Died, Prosecutor Says

Charges against Fort Lee resident Yoseop Choi upgraded to homicide, authorities said.

The 5-month-old baby who was allegedly punched and shaken by his father, Yoseop Choi, has died, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinielli said.

Molinelli announced the baby’s death on Twitter Thursday afternoon. The baby had been in critical condition for days, authorities said.

Choi was initially charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Molinelli said, but now the charges will be upgraded to homicide.

Choi, of Fort Lee, brought the baby to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition last month. Hospital officials called New Jersey protective services, who called Molinelli’s office, after the child was examined. The baby had a severe head injury and a rib fracture that was in the process of healing, authorities said.
