Car Burglaries, Thefts On The Rise In Bergen County: Police

Many of the cars have been left unlocked and some with key fobs left inside, police said.

FORT LEE, NJ — Car burglaries and thefts are on the rise in Bergen County and local police are urging people to do everything possible to protect their property.

Most of the vehicles involved have been left unlocked. Some have had their key fobs left inside, police said.

Key fobs left inside vehicles make them "very susceptible to being stolen," Fort Lee Police said in a Nixle alert Monday night.

Police reminded residents to lock their vehicles and remove the key and bring any valuables inside, police said.

Police also want residents to call 911 if they see any suspicious activity, especially people looking into vehicles or trying to open them. Callers should stay on the phone until police arrive, police said.
